Well, it seems this is yet another Argento flick that is taking a beating in the review department. Even die hard fans are not too pleased with this outing. Anyhow, the PAL R2 DVD is now out via a Polish company that found it important to force the Polish subs!

It didn't take long for this one to come out on DVD - even with a A-list name like Brody toplining. I haven't heard good things about this film - and it's probably going to be weird to watch considering I normally associate Seigner with Polanski films. Maybe that's why both were cast?
Crappy artwork it has to be said as well.

I've seen it and I like it. There's a review on my Ninja Dixon-blog. Like Do you like Hitchcock? its more of a anti-giallo, which I like a lot. I'm sure Argento is very tired of all the whiny cry-baby "fans" out there telling him what to do.

True Fred, I've said this a million times. Still, the overwhelming negativity from the feedback on this latest offering doesn't make things rosy. Of course there was a lot of that during MOTHER OF TEARS, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

I think it's more a case of Argento simply maturing as a director. He's in a far different phase now, making more straightforward films than his disjointed gems of yesteryear.

While GIALLO (2009) seems generally not in favor, I can't see anyone abandoning him for it. Hell, they forgave him for IL FANTASMA DELL'OPERA (1998).

No, Argento matured years ago, this is simply a case of people who are just discovering his work here on a mass scale after his episodes in the Masters of Horror whining. Argento doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, that has already been done from day one with his films. Though, as a completest of his work, I would probably say this is simply something that is better reserved for those true fans..

I for one will still be seeing it.

I don't think Argento has made a truly great film since TENEBRAE and I've come to accept the fact that it's very unlikely that he's ever going to make anything near the level of his best films again. That doesn't mean that everything he has made since has been a waste of time, however. I have enjoyed several of them and I liked both PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and THE CARD PLAYER better than most people seemed to do.

As for GIALLO, I don't have very high expectations but I'm going to have to give it a try. I'll wait for something better than the Polish DVD, though, as another release without forced subtitles is bound to show up at some point.

A little film and personal favorite called PHENOMENA (1985) has me disagreeing with you on this one, Johan

OPERA isn't too bad, admittedly somewhat disjointed but it still has style and quality and doesn't have the cheapness that his later efforts do.

As for PHENOMENA, I have mixed feelings on this one. Again, there are bits that look good and it's fun to see Donald Pleasance in an Argento film. The malformed son storyline doesn't help and it's a shame to see such a week role for Nicolodi.
