Slashers
I thing with slashers, at least for me, is that they deliver something that don't surprises me. I like that. When I'm tired of wacky twist endings and smart dialogue, I rather watch a slasher - old or new - and let the brain relaxed.
It's fun with an whodunnit-slasher, but not to complicated thanks. Like The Prowler or even the first Friday the 13th. The Burning stills stands proud as a very competent slasher, for once with some really good characters that you dosen't want to die. The Friday-series has always been close to my heart, and I have a big understanding for most of the movies in that series, even though I prefer part 1 to 4. Part 2 is especially creepy, and still scares me - which I feel is a bit uniqe.
But sure, I love these more silly slashers like Bloody Pom-Poms, Slaughter High (with Caroline Munroe as a TEENAGER!!! Bisarre!), Madman... yeah, even Humongous! Talking about the last one, I've never been a fan of Prom Night. Thought it was to boring. To slick. Terror Train is much better, not to mention Hell Night.
My Bloody Valentine is a good one to, but I think it lacks a lot because of the MPAA-cuts. It just needs some more juice. Sleepaway Campis great, though not so bloody. The sequels is more fun and corny, and obviously not to take seriously.
One guilty pleasure is The House on Sorority Row, which is one of my favorite slashers. A bit silly, but works fine and has some nice murder-scenes. And yeah, it reminds me of Silent Madness with Viveca Lindfors. I just wish it could come out uncut on dvd. Not a masterpiece, but still good slasher-fun.
Happy Birthday to Me has some fans out there, but I think it's a bit boring. Wellmade, but just to weak and uninspired.
Shit, the more I write down these titles the more titles comes up. So I will quite now. I heard rumours that after Halloween, and especially after the first Friday there has been thousands of slashers, most in the eighties, from all over the world
I can understand why. They're easy to make, a cheap cast and easy to write a script to.
Yeah, I must mention one of the best new slashers made. It's a couple of years old, but I'm serious when I say that Valentine is one of the best. Once again, MPAA, demanded some silly cuts... but it's still a good slasher.

RE: Slashers
I'll be watching All The Boys Love Mandy Lane likely tonight. Word is good on this & the trailer shows skilfull direction with character development. The movie certainly in style seems to fall well away from the usual stalk & slash silliness, here creating a realistic visual with a lot of flair. Looking very good so far & advance word is extremely good. Just checking out the begining it certainly has that Texas Chainsaw type film look about it & actors that are natural rather than grabbing screen time. A modern classic perhaps ? ... more when I watch. bb

It's in cinemas here in Sweden, but I hadn't have time to see it yet. I've heard a lot of good things here to, and the critics seems to enjoy it more than other modern slashers.
"the usual stalk & slash silliness"
- But I love that

Ohh, I remember one of my faves as a kid! The Scaremaker, with Hal Holbrook! Maybe not a great movie, but kinda nice and with a guy dressed up as a bear-mascot with razorsharp claws.

RE: Slashers
HUMONGOUS (1981) is one of my all-time favorites, and not just because its Canadian either! I'm currently in the midst of a review for the film as well as ironing out the contact details for a possible/hopeful interview with one of the actresses in it.
Love the tagline too!
"HERE ARE THE MONSTER'S LITTLE TOYS. ONCE THEY WERE LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS"
And hey, this was shot not too far from me, in Gravenhurst and Georgetown, Ontario. Hmmm, a little location hunting would be fun

yes fred
i find very few satisfying things than eating a box of donuts , swallowed down with a six-pak of beer wilst mindlessly watching a slasher
my wife will walk pass sometimes , point to the tv and comment " how can u sleep after watching that?"
truth be told .....the moment ive finished watching the slasher ive already forgotten it....but while i was watching it , it was the only thing i was thinking about

RE: Slashers
My Bloody Valentine is going to be released in the new year with the deleted scenes included. You can watch them as part of the film or separately. Not sure if this will make it the uncut version or what, but it will have more to it than we are use to.
