ZODIAC (2007)

Two things here that really interest me..directed by David Fincher and love serial killer flicks especially those based on the real deal. Fincher's past flicks like SE7EN, THE GAME and FIGHT CLUB are all distinct in look and feel one that is almost distant from the real world, though managing to make them so believable. I have to think that this aspect will bleed into his up and coming flick ZODIAC.

A serial killer in the San Francisco Bay Area taunts police with his letters and cryptic messages. We follow the investigators and reporters in this lightly fictionalized account of the true 1970's case as they search for the murderer, becoming obsessed with the case. Based on Robert Graysmith's book, the movie's focus is the lives and careers of the detectives and newspaper people.

Slated for an early March 2007 release, here's the TRAILER for it!

RE: ZODIAC (2007)

I wonder how this one will hold up compared to the other Zodiac movies.
I just watched The Zodiac from 2005 the other day and that one is mostly about the cop trying to solve the case, so this new one must be basically the same plot.

I mean the killer was never caught so they don't know who it was and the killings aren't that spectacular once you see them in the other movies.
I don't understand what's the big deal with this killer in the past few years.

RE: ZODIAC (2007)

Speaking of movies about the Zodiac, I have always wanted to see the one that was made during the time this was all actually happening, THE ZODIAC KILLER (1971), which was said to have been made in an attempt to lure in the killer himself!

Preying on the psyche of the viewers within the fact that the Zodiac could be sitting right next to you in a theatre watching a movie about his very own exploits was creepy enough. To think though that these young film makers actually thought their film would catch the killer himself as he showed up to watch it somewhere it was being screened is just bizarre.

Even the tagline worked the audience - ("He may be a stranger...a friend...or the quiet guy who lives next door"). The film apparently even begins with a disclaimer from a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle stating that the film has been made as a public service (at the time attempts were being made in reality to still catch the Zodiac). Even wilder yet, comment cards were handed out among theatre patrons asking them to ID the real killer! WTF!!!? This makes the ad campaign for SNUFF look like an invite to a puppet show down the street! Also according to many Zodiac sources (through the web and otherwise), the real killer actually mentioned this film in one of the letters he wrote to the Chronicle following it hitting drive-ins. I have got to see this thing!
