SO SWEET SO DEAD (1972)

Just finished off this interesting giallo from director Roberto Bianchi Montero and must say it was very good. I can't believe I had the Japanese pre-record of this sitting around for years and never actually watched it! Well, of course fixed that last night! Love the first actual stocking/killing scene on the beach, excellent and very brutal set up. Very realistic indeed. Interesting bit parts from two well known Euro-Cult favs in Luciano Rossi and Nieves Navarro (Susan Scott). This absolutely needs a proper DVD release for sure! It'll keep those rich anf very unfaithful wives in check! Wink

I've seen this under THE SLASHER IS THE SEX MANIAC. I love that title but this is a cut version, I think. Farley Granger is very convincing surrounded by all those gorgeous victims.

RE: SO SWEET SO DEAD (1972)

i believe it was actually released in the UK and in greece on vhs as "so sweet so dead" and both of those versions are cut. i love this giallo, because of the wonderful collection of victims (some of the more stunning euro b-starlets - and also being a big fan of sylva koscina!) as well as some great character actors as well.

i really would love to see this released on DVD, why has no-one put it out, maybe mondo macabro after their fantastic releases of other gialli?

RE: SO SWEET SO DEAD (1972)

Is the UK VHs cut? I have a very old UK VHS of "So Sweet, So Dead" and nothing looks cut to me. It's extremely exploitative and I can't see any cuts or jumps.

This is so sleazy I wonder what the hardcore sex insert version is like!? Sleaze overload!

Got to love the morgue assisstant!

RE: SO SWEET SO DEAD (1972)

I'm surprised no one has released this sleazy, sordid gem full of gorgeous Euro-ladies. It really is quite enjoyable and Luciano Rossi is indeed amazing as the creepy morgue assistant who touches the female corpses in somewhat innapropriate ways. I love how he talks about never being able to get a real girfriend: "Sooner or later they all find out about the corpses!" Brilliant!

I also love the somewhat strange scene where Femi Benussi is chased by the killer on a beach in slow motion. The slow motion scenes with the Templar zombies on the beach in NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS (1975) reminds me a lot of this scene. Love the music too.

Has the version with hardcore inserts been released on video anywhere? Sounds like a completely bastardized version but would be quite fun to see none the less.

RE: SO SWEET SO DEAD (1972)

i don't think many of these <<spiced up>> hard core versions have surfaced anywhere (with the exception of Franco's 99 WOMEN which was released by Blue Underground). I know that this had additional footage with American participants but another giallo which had obvious hard inserts was A DOPPIA FACCIA which apparantly featured Alice Arno.

There also was a hardcore release of NUDE FOR SATAN - apparantly this was the edition that was given to Redemption when they originally released the film, none of the original participants of the film participated. It would be interesting to see who did.

Often it is said that Emanuelle in America was the first film to feature footage that starred the original players - not so - the first seemeds to have been CHRISTIANA THE DEVIL NUN which featured 30 seconds of hardcore with Toti Achilli (who?).

I digress, it would be great to see SO SWEET SO DEAD on DVD and I too am suprised that it has not turned up on DVD anywhere. It has all the ingredients (and more) of a great giallo. Maybe the elements have been lost along with seemingly so many other titles that were released by Cinehollywood in European countries in the 80's (such as THE DEVIL HUNTER, etc)
