Now, I'm sure many of you know Chas and his writing. Well this is some terrible news for anyone. This is what Don May wrote on another forum about it...

I just heard yesterday, from a mutual friend, that horror writer / editor Chas. Balun is battling horrible lymphatic cancer.

Chas' writing is pure fun. His DEEP RED magazine was always kick-ass and his stand-alone book publications (THE GORE SCORE) were always a really fun read. His writing was influential in my tracking down hard-to-find Euro-horrors (who is this Fulci guy anyways? smile.gif ) and gore-soaked films back in the day (before LD and DVD brought them into the mainstream).

I'd never heard of directors like Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento and Ruggero Deodato until Chas' mags. He really had a hand in my fabulous horror-film obsession and it saddens me to hear this.

He is not well and suffering through terrible chemotherapy right now. If you are a fan of his, let him know. Drop him a letter and wish him well.

Chas. I love ya, brother... you really were responsible for my loving horror so much. Get better!
