Anyone seen this 70's resurrected series from the original 60's version with Roger Moore? Anygood? Hard to top Moore as the Saint, so would be interesting to hear thoughts on this!
Ian Ogilvy makes for an almost younger Saint character version of Roger Moore & is actually good in the role , typical of the Seventies genre. I enjoyed it at the time , much in the same way I enjoyed The New Avengers following on from the classic original. Ogilvy in many of the episodes showed more aggression than Roger Moore's suave persona , again typical of the more violent Seventies TV of the time in the UK - culminating with shows like The Sweeny & The Professionals. bb
i actually quite enjoy this series as well. it was enjoyable and had quite a different feel to it from the original. i also like ian ogilvy as an actor.

the series would be of interests to fans of italian cinema as quite some of it was shot in venice and features appearances by a number of european cult movie actors, not least the likes of giacarlo giannini in one episode and lorraine de selle in another.

it's out on dvd in australia i believe.
I highly recommend the Australian dvd release! It looks really nice and has a boat-load of cool extras too.

The series itself is quite enjoyable. Not all of the episodes are all that good but the majority of them are good fun and Ian Ogilvy makes a nice Saint. Quite like the whole delicious 70s vibe that the series has and am frankly a little baffled that it only lasted one season.

And indeed fans of Italian films will enjoy the presence of numerous Italian actors in the episodes that were filmed in Italy. Plus it gives you the rare opportunity to hear these actors speak their own voices rather than being dubbed.

I'm pretty sure Giancarlo Giannini is NOT in one of the episodes, though. But Lorraine De Selle is indeed, as are Olga Karaltos, Helmut Berger, Elsa Martinelli, Mel Ferrer, Carole André, Venantino Venantini, Marino Masé, Stelio Candelli, Paolo Malco, Don Powell, Carla Romanelli and lots of other familiar Euro actors. THAT is what truly sold it for me personally!
