Yes, finally...a true legit version coming to DVD!! Mya Communications is releasing this highly sought after Argento film in Feb 2009!! Now, what do they have up there sleeve that the others didn't?

Surprised your post hasn't gotten the due attention the topic deserves, Steve, as for literally years, complaints about the lack of a definitive release of FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET (1971) (4 MOSCHE DI VELLUTO GRIGIO) have been thrown around more than porn star panties near the free dildo samples booth at a skank convention. I'm with you though, Steve on the bigtime head scratcher about what these guys had up their sleeves to land the rights? Extremely interesting that an essentially unknown and unproven company, MYA Communcations, managed to attain what others have competitively attempted to and failed. Although I need to share that I've heard from more than one person that MYA Communications is either an offshoot of or a replacement for the former No Shame Films, so perhaps that fact in itself had a great deal to do with it.
Either way, this is exciting stuff! Let's hope and pray that it is THE one to have and does this much sought after title proud. I'm keeping eyes peeled.
I actually bought the German disc as I was sure that a better version would never become available thank to all the difficult rights issues etc. Wish I hadn't! Oh well... it's nice to see that a proper release is on the way. It's a fine little film and I'll be getting this for sure! Extras look meagre, though. Not even an Argento interview??

I had forgotten there even was a German disc. Thanks for that, Johan.
In terms of extras on the MYA release though, you're right - they look almost non-existent, which considering the history of this title's availability, is highly unfortunate. Never mind an Argento interview though. Even more so, I'd give a left nut to be able to sit back and enjoy a lengthy Q&A with the magnificent, Mimsy Farmer - whose status as somewhat of a minor gialli goddess was kick started unquestionably with 4 MOSCHE DI VELLUTO GRIGIO. Had she not had such a significant role in Argento's film, she may have never been considered for later, twitchy parts in giallo outings such as Crispino's MACCHIE SOLARI (1973) and Barilli's IL PROFUMO DELLA SIGNORA IN NERO (1974) (PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK). The film definitely had influence in the way it shaped Mimsy's overall onscreen persona, in my view. And what of Brooklyn, New York born veteran film, television and theatre actor, Michael Brandon? I'd be intrigued to know how he looks back today on his only foray into the offbeat world of Italian cult cinema.
Yeah, I was mostly just mentioning an Argento interview because I thought that would be fairly easy to secure. Or Luigi Cozzi, who worked on the screenplay. But, of course, I'd be great to hear from Michael Brandon, Bud Spencer and of course Mimsy Farmer. I agree that this is a key title in her Euro-filmography, although she had already played a rather unbalanced character in THE ROAD TO SALINA, which is one of her finest performances IMO.
Yep, I held off having a feeling that a disc such as this would eventually make it's way! I can't wait to see how the print is on this!
Well, hopefully the folks at MYA do the title justice, as right now amongst Argento talk, the news of this disc is all the buzz and fans will no doubt be watching like hawks and ready to pounce on any flaws. Here's hoping there's little to complain about.
Yeah, I have high hopes for MYA. They are also going to release Sergio Martino's THE SCORPION WITH TWO TAILS (1982) and the disc will include footage from the extended mini series version as extras! Not my favorite Martino film but it has its moments and I'm excited about seeing the extra footage as I think it extends John Saxon's role, which was pretty brief in the movie version. The cut footage also ought to restore Sonia Viviani's performance, which was cut entirely in the movie version.
MYA's image and approach is similar to what No Shame's was..I wonder if there's a tie there somewhere?

That's what I've already suggested in one of my posts above. Pretty positive they are an offshoot of No Shame. It's been all but confirmed on several boards, so the general consensus is yes, they do have a tie in to the former No Shame. At least that tells us we're likely to get stellar quality when the disc officially streets.
