According to the Italian newspaper "La Stampa" it seems Dario has already begun scouting locations for his latest film, GIALLO. Seems that he is in the mood to throw together yet another giallo, using methods imspired by his earlier films. There are reports that not only Asia Argento will be involved, but also Ray Liotta and Vincent Gallo as well. As for a legit this information is, but Dark Dreams and Shock till you drop.com are reporting on this. So, no hardcore evidence yet...
GIALLO'S production starts in February, in Turin, a city well known for it's thrillers. Yes, Asia, Ray and Vincent are all in the primary cast.

There is something to do with a Japanese female who is attacked, tramatized and repeats the word giallo "yellow".

Another Great opportunity for Dario to show the world just how Good this genre can be ... here's hoping. Would be neat if he were to call upon some of the old school familiar faces of the past associated with the genre such as Ray Lovelock, John Steiner, John Saxon etc. bb
I still have to see MOTHER OF TEARS. From those who saw the finale of the Three Mothers Trilogy first hand, do you all feel it lived up to the hype?

GIALLO definitey sounds lile one to look out for, as most Argento projects in the works are.
Well, if you read my review and comments about MOT, you'd know the answer to your question. Still, i'll re-iterate...MOT is certainly a far lower example from both SUSPIRIA and even INFERNO. Though at the sametime, it's a testament as to where Dario is in at this point in his career. Also with the changing times of the genre as well. Argento wants more blood, guts and a lot less style. Though we do see flashes of the traditional Argento. it certainly is a far cry at the sametime. MOT is very entertaining though, and is an effort worth a viewing especially for those Argento fans.

GIALLO, I suspect, will be of a different breed. Retracking to his roots as he did with NON HO SONNO...
No, Not NonHoSonno again! It was just a parody of his own works... a joke. A boring joke. I liked it the first time, but after a second time it dosen't work anymore.

Card Player and MOT is a lot more mature and more Argento than NHS. MOT has a lot of style and great set-pieces. Argento is a different man than in the seventies and early eighties, and he knows he don't need strange light and big camera-cranes to tell a story.

I hope he sticks with his "new" mature way of filmmaking, because that's what he wants to do it seems.
Seriously, Argento needs to use some other actress than his daughter for the leading role in his films. I'm quite tired of Asia now and there certainly are lots of promising actresses out there for him to work with. For example, I think Stefania Rocca delivered a very solid performance for him in THE CARD PLAYER, although I have very mixed feelings about the film itself.
Here are some early pictures taken during production..

Here's a crude trailer that has surfaced on You Tube!

I think this will be the big "make or break" for Dario in terms of the long discussed subject of whether the director still "has it" or not. I'm still one behind though as I've yet to see his final 'Three Mothers' installment, LA TERZA MADRE (2008), however I really have high hopes that GIALLO will take Argento back to those wonderous, black gloved glory days that seemingly expired after TENEBRE (1982). Would it help if he truly knew how badly we wanted it?ShyWink

As well, in a sort of on topic/off topic related note of interest and inquiry, I missed out on DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK? (2005) (TI PIACE HITCHCOCK?) the first time around and it remains a title of personal curiosity I'm inclined to grab. Can we rate this overall as Argento gialli or does the film fall somewhere on the outskirts of the subgenre? I'm also intrigued to read any information here in terms of the best recommended source for seeing DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK? for the first time and adding it to my collection via DVD. Best suggested disc presentation of this offbeat Argento offering would certainly be most welcome. Many thanks in advance!Smile

P.S. - How do the majority of us feel in regards Mr. Adrian Brody as choice for Argento leading man in GIALLO? Definitely a strong selection to carry the picture in my opinion.
