Death Warmed Up

New Zealand. 1984.Director – David Blyth

I babble a lot about collecting old VHS, and I recently JUST missed aquiring this odd flim in my most recent buying frenzy Smile

It was a shame because I had been looking for it for a while, and it had the original cover.

Has anyone seen this New Zealand Horror/Sci Fi Picture?
I had heard Jodorowsky sings it's praises, which hightened my interest.

Plot: Teenage Michael Tucker is brainwashed by the evil Dr Archer Howell into taking a shotgun and blowing his parents away. He is released from an asylum three years later. Along with his girlfriend and two other friends, he travels to the offshore island that houses Howell’s Trans Cranial Applications hospital in pursuit of revenge. But to get there they must first deal with Howell’s zombie creations and the various crazies loose on the island. (source)
Ooooh! Never seen it even though I am familiar with the title. Great cover there! I generally don't buy anything on vhs anymore but a great-looking cover drives me wild. It's just so cool to have. That's why I never throw away my old vhs version even though I've upgraded to dvd. I just can't bear to part with my cool vhs covers! Really geeky, I know! Tongue
I have the old pre-record of this laying around somewhere, one that I ahve yet to dive into! I always loved the cover for this!
I know! The cover is such good cover art!
I am so dissapointed I missed out on getting the VHS.......
I can't imagine who would have bought it as the shop was in the middle of a very suburban area filled with Eastern Europeans, the last place I would expect anyone to care, let alone want an old video cassette of the movie!

It's a Zombie like flick that attained a 'Cult' following when released & is definitely worth seeing. Look for the Uncut print though as many versions are snipped of some moments. The UK PAL Tape for example is Cut. The Japanese VHS is the full version.
Think MUTANT (also from 1984) with Wings Hauser (Another Great Eighties Sci Fi / Monster type flick) with early Peter Jackson type gore etc. bb
On the subject of VHS, I am one of those still guilty of buying them to this day. They had the coolest covers yes, and a good old 70's or 80's horror obscurity in giant clamshell for dirt cheap never fails to make me dig into my pocket.

Wow, such a long time since I saw mutant. But I remember I liked it very much. To really any gore, but a good zombie-style movie with nice acting and slick directing. Is there any good dvd out?
