I figured this would be a good permanent spot to wish Happy Birthdays to our favorites from the world of European cinema rather than starting a new post for every recognized B-Day like I used to.
Starting it off then, today wishing a Happy Birthday to...
-one half of the always awesome musical brother combination, Maurizio De Angelis is the big 60 on this February 22nd
-regarded director Giuliano Montaldo hits 77 today
-German actress and former Bond Girl, Karin Dor is 69 on this day also
-lastly, the relatively obscure Italian writer/director of mostly B 80's Euro-action, Leandro Lucchetti turns 63
More to come from the official CN Euro Birthday Lookout!

Happy Birthday to the man of a million and one westerns, Aldo Sambrell, who turns 70 on this February 23rd!
A big Happy 70th Birthday to one of the beloved 'Red Lips Girls', Rosanna Yanni, on this day!
In today's Euro-culter Birthday news for March 1st...
-the talented Leonard Mann is 60 today
-well traveled, long time film veteran Paul Muller is 84 on this day
Happy Birthday to Leonard and Paul!

Yesterday was the 84th Birthday of the prolific Swiss actor Paul Muller, well over 200 genre films with Franco, Fulci, Freda, and many others since the late 1940s. I think he's still working. I have a tribute to him on my blog

Happy B-Day to the following Euro-cult personalities on this March 9th, 2007...
-the absolutely stunning Ornella Muti is 52 today and no doubt, still looking amazing
-Hammer film familiar (THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, COUNTESS DRACULA) and later perhaps most notably the medium from PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK (1974), Nike Arrighi, hits the big 60 on this day
-Argentina born Cándida Losada of such Spanish cult films as Franco's LUCKY, THE INSCRUTABLE (1967), Serrador's LA RESIDENCIA (1969) (THE BOARDING SCHOOL) and Eugenio Martín's SOBRENATURAL (1981), would have been 92 today
Happy Birthday to all three of these unique European ladies!

Happy Birthday today to two of the most delicious of the Euro-dolls, as Serena Grandi is 49 today and Corinne Clery turns 57! From what I hear they still look outstanding (would love to see some recent pics). A big happy birthday to both of these sweethearts
Also, French director and Eurocine regular Pierre Chevalier (known to some as Peter Knight) is a grand 92 on this day of March 23rd, 2007. Does anyone know if Chevalier is still with us? He retired from directing back in the mid-eighties (one of his last "hurrahs" being the mind-boggler, THE PANTHER SQUAD ('84) ) but I wasn't sure if he had passed or not in following years. Perhaps some of the Eurocine buffs can chime in here.
Paging Mr. Bob Monell!

On this March 24th, 2007...
-the great late character actor Richard Conte would have been 97 today
-equally great veteran of many spaghetti westerns, José Bódalo would have hit 91 on this date
Happy Birthday to both of these wonderful actors who certainly delivered many inspired performances in a good number of European cult favorites!

Haven't heard any reports of Pierre Chevalier's demise, Devin. I especially enjoy his THE INVISIBLE DEAD and the white slavery sleazefest THE HOUSE OF THE LOST DOLLS (1973), a crazed Eurocine composite!

Thanks then, Robert! Hopefully Chevalier is sitting back somewhere, glass of wine in hand and reminiscing fondly about his days making wonderful, on the fringe cinema!
