When I first discovered the films that were being produced by Hudson Productions, the journey started with a short film called The Unknown. One's up close and personal dealings with a Bigfoot encounter. Then it was off to another highly entertaining short entitled Monster, sort of a modern day twist to Mary Shelly's classic tale, Frankenstein. So when the screener showed up from their first full-length feature, Necropolis Awakened I was indeed thrilled to experience another and lengthier journey from them. I wasn't disappoint to say the least. Starting off with a three car chase that echoed Mad Max, the guns a blazing, I knew I was in for a treat.
Welcome to the small town of Skyhook, well at least that was the way it was until Neo-Genentrix showed up. Things became different, people were changing and not for the good. They showed signs of what one would describe as the walking dead. All as a result of Neo-Genentrix experimenting. There was one who defied the change and swore to bring things back to the norm, Bob. Nefarious Thorne, the leader of the Undead recruits a couple of humans to dispose of Bob. With both the flesh hungry living dead and the money hungry assassins nipping at Bob's feet, time runs down to stop them from sucking the life from another town.

Fully shot on digital, this film or should I say movie crosses several genre boundaries. Mixing non-stop action with blood soaked gore and adding a Peter Jackson a la Bad Taste feel to it, this exhibits both pure craftsmanship and plain old entertainment. Garrett White's direction of this movie not only keeps you highly entertained, but has you also thinking and reaches for that shue-in laugh as well. What a great start to a very long journey in feature movies for Hudson Production. Kudos to everyone involved with this project, you get a general feel that both the cast and crew really had a blast putting this project together. Everything from SFX, to the movie's score and acting, this is one movie that is hard to top.
Several scenes the really stood out heighten the general feel to Necropolis Awakened. One in particular was near the end when Bob was pitted up against a monster of a zombie with several extremities. The duel takes place in what seems to be a cow or horse corral surrounded with countless undead, minions etc. The outcome of the battle is a spoiler that I want take any part in, something you'll have to see for yourself. Basically a David versus Goliath with a modern twist on it, but does the end have the same results? If you support Independent filmmaking, then looking into Hudson Production's work, they won't let you down! For further info on Necropolis and other projects from HP then visit www.hudsonpro.com
