There is no easy way to review an independent film except for telling it let it like it is. The latest from Cut ‘n’ Run Production. GONE THE WAY OF THE FLESH is certainly not for everyone, at least if you are weak in the stomach and thin skinned. Shot on a mere $700US budget and reaping it’s rewards by being picked up by the mighty Troma Entertainment which in turns will be releasing it on DVD around February 2007. They have certain picked up a gem here, a gem that is straight out of the grindhouse glory days of the late 50's up until the mid 70's.
Of course the difference here is, that is was only shot between 2003 and 2005. Director Jason Martinko exhausted every little resource he was able to get his hands on to shot and complete this gory yet very raw horror offering about a serial killer who has his tastes for rock groups, in this case The Jason Martinko Revue. A hip hillbilly rock set that really have the knack for pounding out some serious sounds. Everything from meat grinding to belly slicing to decapitation, GONE THE WAY OF THE FLESH is a serious contender for it’s gore alone. Not to mention the underlining dark humor Martinko throws in to give you an easing moment or two before the next onslaught begins.
Hey, this is just the icing on the cake though, along with the gore and dark humor we have everything from in your face stripping lesbianism to sideshow street people and bar room brawls. All of which created a total mayhem only found in a done right grindhouse offering. This is exactly what appeals the most for me about GONE THE WAY OF THE FLESH, Martinko’s ability to emulate those classic down and dirty grindhouse films, it’s time for the next Herschell Gordon Lewis to rise to the occasion. Here’s to looking out for the up and coming Troma DVD release and hats of to Jason for bringing such a promising start to hopefully a long grindhouse filled career!
