CULT CUTS #3

Reviewed By-Sean Patrick Dolan

After reading Steve's reviews and briefly meeting one of the editors, Michael, in a chat room, I was excited to check out this magazine myself- and I was definitely not disappointed when it arrived.  The format of CULT CUTS #3 remains the same, a "pulp" style black and white magazine between two glossy covers, but they appear to have expanded in length to 80 pages of material.  As Steve mentioned, there are far too many interviews, articles, and movie reviews to even consider naming them all in a brief review.  Among the many highlights in this issue are the interviews- Rob Zombie, Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR), Jay Woelfel (BEYOND DREAM'S DOOR), Stuart Gordon (FROM BEYOND), and Ken Foree (DAWN OF THE DEAD).  This is followed by strong articles on the subjects of Grindhouse, martial arts cinema, modern "creature" flicks, and recent serial killer films (ED GEIN, TED BUNDY, DAHMER).  Interspersed between these larger pieces are dozens of reviews written by a very capable staff of writers, on films as diverse as NEAR DARK, ZEDER, GUINEA PIG, LAST HOUSE ON DEAD END STREET, and THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE. The page near the end of the magazine listing companies who provided DVD screeners is, by itself, an excellent reference tool for those looking to get a hold of some of the harder to find films.  Don't miss the back cover either, a full color advert for the band NECROPHAGIA and their horror inspired album "The Divine Art of Torture".

I agree completely with Steve's comments in his reviews of the previous issues of this magazine.  Covering Euro, Asian, Cult, and B-flicks to the exclusion of all things mainstream, CULT CUTS is definitely on the same page as Cinema Nocturna, and if you are a fan of one you are likely a fan of the other- you just might not know it yet.
