Five highly explosive films, over two hours of special dvd extras, seven exclusive director’s interviews and a whole slew more of other extras that are dawned on this the very new set from Artsmagic. This a set of films that are highly rare here in North America, yet they are is fan base that has waited for years to see these films make their way to the shiny format we like to call DVD. Upon receiving a few of the films for early reviews, and I might add the very first time for me to see these films at all. I was highly shocked, but yet very entertained with the various techniques and styles used in the direction of these five very different films. Though the main subject matter dealt with brutal rape and sexual themes, they are done for the most part with complete artfuliness if there’s such a word. A series a films that were extracted from the manga works of Takashi Ishii who also adapted the five films along with directing the series closer RED VERTIGO. Know as romanporno films, a series of films that showcase humans in their true element. Each film using two main character’s in name only and given different situations. The were produced by Japan’s oldest studio Nikkatsu, who at the time needed a different route to take to boost the studio’s poor showing in audiences. Romanporno was the complete answer as it drew the viewers in by the droves.
Artsmagic has taken great lengths at restoring and presenting these five films to their fullest potential. That shows completely from start to finish, as each film is a fine example of the care put into them. Everything from the cleaning up of the prints, the crystal clear audio and they highly stylish interactive menus which provide easy navigation. I truly commend Artsmagic in the time and effort that has been put into a series of films that other companies wouldn’t take time to properly present them to their fullest capability like they have.
